Siler City, North Carolina

Siler City, North CarolinaThe Siler City Merchants Association says "welcome" and asks you to introduce yourself to the local merchants so they can call you by name. They'll be delighted to show you their treasures and you will treasure the time you spend getting to know Siler City.

Siler City has been known for its friendly citizens and wonderful lifestyle as far back as the 1750s, when it was just a railroad town and agricultural center. Chartered as a town in 1887, Siler City is an oasis of Southern charm blended with a strong economic base, making it a great place to live and raise a family. Education is of paramount importance in Siler City and an excellent school system is in place.

The arts are not neglected in Siler. In 2002, Siler City businesses worked with Central Carolina Community College to create the North Carolina Arts Incubator. The Incubator now occupies four buildings in the downtown historic district and provides low rent studio space and business assistance for artists. Approximately 20 artists create works in a variety of media, including silver smithing, pottery, ceramics, fiber, stained glass and more. A stage and gazebo have been added to the Incubator, creating a venue for performing arts in addition to the monthly Art Walk enjoyed by residents.

Siler City is located near Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, which offers every kind of outdoor activity on and off the water. Fishing, boating, water skiing - all are popular ways to make a splash. The lakeside recreation areas include camping facilities as well as grills for picnicking. A number of hiking trails are available for walkers, ranging from easy to strenuous. And, if you are lucky, you may see a bald eagle soaring overhead.
