Burlington, North Carolina

Burlington, NCSo much to do, so little time. That's how you'll feel when you visit Burlington for the first time.

History buffs will be in their element as they visit places such as the Alamance Battleground, the site of a Revolutionary War battle in 1771, or the Glencoe Mill Village, a housing development and cotton mill complex built in the early 1880s, which gives visitors a glimpse into the lives of 19th century textile workers. Burlington's Indian heritage is evident at the small museum housing the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. The Historic Snow Camp and Theater mixes historic landmarks with an outdoor repertory group which stages several productions each summer.

Another way to spend a leisurely afternoon is to take the Haw River Wine Trail. The trail consists of five local wineries set among one of North Carolina's scenic drives. Wine tastings are available and each family-run vineyard has its own special charm.

"Cedarock Park is a favorite place for hikers, bikers, equestrians and campers with its many trails. And those who think a tee time is the best part of the day will appreciate the many golf courses in and around Burlington."

Sports lovers will find almost no end of races to watch and games to see. The Ace Speedway is easy to find. Just follow the roar of the engines to catch the Friday night stock car races.

Baseball is big, too, as the Burlington Royals, owned by the Kansas City Royals take on regional minor league teams.

Cedarock Park is a favorite place for hikers, bikers, equestrians and campers with its many trails. And those who think a tee time is the best part of the day will appreciate the many golf courses in and around Burlington.

For those unafraid of heights, a balloon ride is quite possibly the best way to see Burlington in all its splendor surrounded by scenic views of surrounding lakes and forests.
